The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has announced a major change to the country’s visa policy: Starting July 6, 2025, all travelers entering Syria—whether through land borders or airports—will be required to pay entry visa fees. This new regulation ends the previous system where visa fees were only collected from arrivals at Damascus International Airport, while travelers crossing by land were generally exempt.
Unified Visa Fees for All Entry Points
With the issuance of Decree No. 148/8, Syria will now collect visa fees at all entry points—airports and land borders alike. The fees are denominated in US dollars and must be paid upon arrival, based on the daily exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Syria.
This move is intended to standardize and clarify entry requirements for all nationalities, creating fairness and transparency at every Syrian border crossing.
Who Is Affected?
This regulation applies to all Arab and foreign nationals, including both tourists and business visitors, no matter where they are coming from or how they enter Syria.
Visa Fees for European and English-Speaking Travelers
For most European and English-speaking countries, Syrian visa fees are as follows:
- European Union nations, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and similar countries are generally in the fifth and seventh groups.
- Most European countries (such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Austria, etc.), as well as Japan, China, South Korea, Brazil, and others, pay $75 for a single-entry visa (1 month), $110 for a double-entry visa (3 months), and $150 for a multiple-entry visa (6 months). The transit visa fee for these countries is $40.
- UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and several other English-speaking countries pay a higher rate: $150 for a single-entry visa (1 month), $225 for a double-entry visa (3 months), and $300 for a multiple-entry visa (6 months). The transit visa fee for these countries is $75.

- The fee and conditions depend on your nationality and visa type (single, double, multiple entry, or transit).

Why Is This Happening?
Syrian officials have stated that these changes are designed to:

- Streamline border operations and reduce confusion.
- Bring Syria’s visa policy in line with international standards.
