michaeldodge202025-05-01Verified Excellent experience Syrian Guides was incredible… from the moment I reached out to them, I knew they were the right fit for me. They make everything simple, fun, and spontaneous. But most importantly, they are tuned in to the situation in Syria, and they don’t take chances. So you can rest easy knowing that you’re in good hands.I had so much fun visiting Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo, and Krak de Chevaliers on my tour, and am already thinking of my next visit with Syrian Guides. Francesca F2025-05-01Verified Highly recommended! I spent three great days in Damascus and Syrian guides took care of every detail to perfection. As a solo female traveler it was not an easy decision to visit Syria, but I felt safe and taken care of at every moment. Communication was quick and professional: Rami and Mary are kind and experienced, and put so much effort not only in accomodating my various requests, but also in ensuring everything was fine for the entire duration of the trip. Meeting them, I noticed how much passion they have for their job and their country, and this reflects in the tours that they organize: during my trip I was able not only to witness the beauty of Syria and its history, but also to get to know its wonderful humanity - from local artisans to artists and various other people in the city. My guide Gulizar was energetic, clever, and eager to help in any way she could. A truly fantastic human being! She adapted the tour exactly to my needs and interests, I couldn't have been happier with the way how she helped me discover the city. Derek B2025-04-30Verified Travel Syria with these guys. You won't regret it! I know that if you say to most people that you are planning to go to Syria. That you are mad and how dangerous it is. How wrong they are. The guys at Syrian guides will show you a different side to the country. Learnt and experienced so much and felt totally safe at all times. Couldn't recommend these guys enough. Santana M2025-04-30Verified Absolutely amazing experience! I just came back from my Easter tour with Syrian guide and it was the experience of a lifetime. Our guides, Bashar and Rami, were absolutely amazing. They took us into many Syrian homes were we were able to talk to people about the Syrian culture and the recent developments. At any given moment I (as a female traveler) felt very safe and taken care of. Our guides were very knowledgeable and next to amazing Unesco sites we talked to many people including a Druze mayor, a HTS fighter, a Christian mother, a former Syrian political prisoner and Syrian wine farmer. Traveler111295482622025-04-24Verified A privilege to visit Free Syria. Great experience, my guide Bashar was able to show me fascinating sites that would otherwise by closed to a tourist. We visited sites that were not on my list to see but added a brilliant and unique perspective on the country. Visit Syria. The people are wonderful. The history is accessible in a way unlike most countries that are heavily visited by tourists. Andrei O2025-04-13Verified The perfect experience for the reticent I have spent two nights in Syria, crossing from Jordan. Every aspect of my trip was professionally handled by the Syrian Guides team, starting from the papers needed and the pickup from my hotel in Amman, to giving me valuable advice and information every step of the way.Sara was an amazing tour guide, fluent in English and knowledgeable about countless historic facts. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her as my guide, as she even managed to obtain us the permission to climb in the bridal minaret of the Ummayad Mosque, the oldest minaret in the entire Islamic world.I had a wonderful time in Damascus and Palmyra, and felt entirely safe and happy every step of the way. This was an unforgettable experience in all aspects: culinary, cultural and human. My only regret is that I didn't have the courage beforehand to consider a longer stay in this beautiful country. The entire team is amazing, so I want to express my gratitude to Sara, Rami, Mary & the drivers. You guys are the best! John W2025-04-12Verified Extraordinary visit! Visiting Syria with Syrian Guides was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by how welcoming, safe, and full of hope the country is—so much of what we’d heard beforehand was completely inaccurate. Syria is a place rich with history, beauty, and resilience, and Damascus, in particular, blew us away with its depth of culture and stories around every corner.Syrian Guides created a thoughtful, personalized itinerary that perfectly matched our interests. We saw everything we hoped to see—and more. From exploring historical landmarks to savoring authentic local cuisine and having genuine interactions with kind-hearted locals, every moment was meaningful. The accommodations were comfortable and well-chosen, and the hospitality everywhere we went was exceptional.Communication with Syrian Guides was smooth from start to finish, and the value of the tour was outstanding. Honestly, our only regret is not staying longer to explore more of this incredible country. If you’re considering a visit—do it. Tourism will not only enrich your own life but also support a nation ready to share its beauty and warmth with the world. See Syria soon—you won’t regret it. Dean2025-04-12Verified An American in Syria I cannot express my gratitude to Bashir and the Syrian Guides team for making this trip possible. Traveling around Syria right now without a guide is problematic, to say the least. ALL the red tape was dealt with by Syrian Guides, making this experience a trip of a lifetime. You as the traveler can sit back and experience all this beautiful country has to offer. A short four months ago, Syria was reborn and this week has been incredible watching it bloom before my eyes. Thank you again for everything! See you on the next trip. Fenna B2025-04-11Verified Highly recommended! A journey through Syria is an unforgettable immersion into history and resilience. Damascus, the ancient city, transported me through centuries. Aleppo, despite its challenges, pulsed with a determined spirit. Witnessing Palmyra was awe-inspiring. However, the true highlight was the extraordinary warmth of the Syrian people. While I thrive as a solo traveler, it was a good decision to join Syrian Guide Tour for 8 days. This tour was more than sightseeing. It was a deeply moving experience that challenged perceptions and revealed the enduring spirit of a remarkable nation. If you are thinking of visiting Syria, I highly recommend going with a Syrian Guide. Mary and Ramy are excellent communicators and professionals. They respond through WhatsApp and email on time. Both speak English fluently, and they are eager to share knowledge about Syria. Please choose Syrian Guide over Western organized tours to support the locals. Thank you, Mary and Ramy. Hopefully our paths will cross again. Wish you all the best, Syria! Angie K2025-04-10Verified Experience of a lifetime!! This was easily in the top 3 most amazing experiences I've had in all 50 years of my life so far! My fiancé and I were debating on whether to do this tour privately or as a group, and I'm so glad we decided to go as a group! The other travelers added a dynamic to the tour that would have been missed if it were just the two of us. Our guides, Mary and Rami, well...they are THE BEST! Such knowledgeable, passionate, entertaining, patient and welcoming hosts! The tour immersed us into the many aspects of past and present Syrian life, from its ancient cultural & religious history up to the recent civil war and new government springing forth hope for the Syrians of today. And I can't say enough about our driver Abu Ahmed; his skillful maneuvering through narrow winding mountain roads, long dusty desert highways, rare but intense rain storms, copious potholes, and nerve-wracking close encounters with other vehicles truly impressed this NYC girl! After checking into the gorgeous Damascus-style Beit Al-Mamlouka hotel, we spent the first 2 days exploring the old city and visiting really cool Damascene homes, souks, an ancient historic church (St. Ananias) and the Great Mosque of Damascus (Umayyad Mosque). Part of day 2 included visiting the National Museum of Damascus and then later the outskirts of Damascus to bear witness to the bombed-out villages of Jobar & Harasta. While we were taking photos from an overpass of the ruined homes & buildings littering the landscape for miles and miles, a random stranger stopped on his motorbike to chat with us in damn perfect English; a young man named Anis who humbly described himself as a medical student and invited our entire tour group to his home for iftar dinner...and yes we took him up on his invitation (we later find out he's a 5th year resident, therefore a full-fledged Doctor of Medicine)! After this pleasant but brief meeting, we continued on our tour a few miles further. This is probably the saddest part of the trip for me; the utter devastation inflicted upon these villages during the Syrian civil war brought a heaviness to my heart and tears to my eyes...almost everything in this city was completely and utterly destroyed. Watching children play on their rusty swings and kick balls around amongst the rubble has been burned into my mind forever. But meeting some of the inhabitants of Harasta and the actual Mayor of this village was super cool; he invited us to his office and then showed us secret tunnels beneath the ruins of an Orthodox church that sustained a direct missile attack by the former government regime. Despite all they've been through, these people have so much hope and optimism to repair and rebuild their homes and neighborhoods; I am confident they will succeed. Next day on our way to Aleppo we took a side trip to Saydnaya prison (aka human slaughterhouse) where mostly political prisoners endured torture both physically and psychologically in overcrowded and inhumane conditions. I won't go into details but you can learn more about this infamous prison on the web just by searching. After this we drove on to Maaloula to visit the 1700 year-old Christian monastery of Sergius & Bacchus. During the Syrian civil war this entire village was taken over by jihadists who destroyed almost everything they could get their dirty little hands on. The village contained a once-beautiful luxury hotel (The Safir) which was used as a base by these Al-Nusra militants and subsequently destroyed by the Syrian army as they drove them out into the surrounding mountains. At this point of the tour I was having a very rough time because my weak American intestines were fighting their own battle against something I ate or drank the day before. Despite this, our tour continued on foot along a path through the mountain gorge that St Thecla used to escape from her pursuers (refer to the Bible's New Testament story "The Acts of Paul and Thecla"). Maybe it was St. Thecla herself who gave me the strength to make it through the gorge and onward to the comfort of our tour bus parked on the other side. Praise be to St. Thecla! Our journey continued to Aleppo, the ancient and continuously inhabited city where we spent two nights in a luxurious and modern hotel (The Quattro). After getting a good night of sleep, our next stop on the tour was the Citadel of Aleppo (a UNESCO site), one of the oldest and largest castles in the world. Over the millennia it has been occupied by many empires including Assyrians, Greeks, Armenians, Romans, Byzantines, Ayyubids, Mamluks, and Ottomans. This citadel is truly impressive as a defensive fortress. After entering through an enormous side-facing gate and along uneven stone floors with zig-zag corridors we descended into the dungeons where many unfortunate prisoners spent the last moments of their lives in damp darkness and despair. Fortunately as visitors and not actual prisoners we were free to ascend and enjoy the fresh air to further explore the rest of the massive citadel grounds (including Roman baths, an amphitheater, a temple to the storm god Hadad, and a huge throne room). At the top of the crumbling ramparts we were greeted with a stunning panoramic view of the entire city of Aleppo. I realize I failed to review any of the delicious restaurants and cuisines we enjoyed on the trip, but I'm not much of a foodie anyway. I also realize this review is getting super long, so I'm just going to briefly mention some of the other places we visited on this amazing trip. The city of Hama (with its big wooden water wheels), The Krak Des Chevaliers (crusader castle), the gorgeous Jarjour winery (where we tasted many delicious Syrian wines), Tadmor aka Palmyra & the Necropolis (used as a base by ISIS and destroyed twice), a bedouin tent for lunch, Bosra (amphitheater), a Druze family's mountain home for a ghee-drenched meal, and then back to Damascus where we stayed for the final 2 nights of our trip at the Dar Al-Mamlouka damascene hotel (sister hotel of the Beit Al-Mamlouka). Spectacular rooms and such hospitable hosts! Overall, this was an experience I will never forget and I highly recommend syrianguides.com to be your tour guides. Not once did I feel unsafe or unwelcomed while touring this amazing country, and I learned so much about the warm and kind Syrian people. May the new government succeed in providing stability, economic growth, equity and fairness for all of its diverse people. Best wishes & success to Mary, Rami and the rest of the Syrian Guides team!
