Big news for travelers who are willing to visit Syria — for the first time since 2011, a European airline has landed in Damascus! 🇷🇴✈️🇸🇾
Romania’s Dan Air made history on June 16, operating the first EU-to-Syria flight in over a decade. The flight took off from Bucharest and landed safely in the Syrian capital, marking a hopeful milestone in Syria’s path toward reconnection with the world.
The occasion was celebrated in style at Bucharest Airport, with a welcoming ceremony attended by media, diplomats, and officials from both countries.
Dan Air’s message was clear: this isn’t just about aviation — it’s about reconnecting families, reopening doors for business, and reigniting historical and cultural ties. The airline also revealed plans to connect Damascus with Frankfurt, Berlin, and Stockholm in the coming months.
This breakthrough follows a major turning point last December, when a transitional government led by President Ahmed al-Sahraa came to power. Since then, Syria has been gradually opening up, with regional airlines from Turkey, Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar resuming flights earlier this year.
Germany, home to one of Europe’s largest Syrian communities, is expected to benefit from this step — making family visits and cultural exchange much more accessible.
Could this be the start of a travel comeback for Syria? It’s starting to look like it.
