Lebanon Winter Time: Syria Is One Hour Ahead
Travelers coming to Syria through Beirut should double-check pickup, flight and border-transfer times after Lebanon moved its clocks back one hour.

Lebanon has officially returned to winter time, creating a temporary one-hour time difference between Lebanon and Syria that travelers should keep in mind when planning a journey from Beirut to Damascus.
Lebanon moved its clocks back by one hour at midnight on the night of October 24–25, 2026. Lebanon is now on UTC+2. Syria, however, no longer changes its clocks and remains on UTC+3 throughout the year.
Syria is currently one hour ahead of Lebanon. If it is 9:00 am in Beirut, it is already 10:00 am in Damascus.
Lebanon turned its clocks back, but Syria did not
Lebanon’s General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers issued an official reminder earlier in October confirming that daylight saving time would end at midnight between October 24 and 25. The country therefore moved from UTC+3 to UTC+2.
Syria follows a different system. Since 2022, Syria has kept the same UTC+3 time throughout the year and does not switch to winter time. As a result, Beirut and Damascus are no longer on the same clock during the winter period.
Why this matters for Syria travelers
This is especially important for visitors who fly into Beirut International Airport and then continue by road to Syria through the Masnaa–Jdeideh Yabous border crossing.
A traveler can leave Beirut at one local time and arrive in Syria with the clock showing one hour later in addition to the actual driving time. Smartphones will often change automatically when they connect to the Syrian mobile network, which can make the difference easy to miss.
Travelers should pay particular attention to:
- Hotel pickup times in Beirut: these should be understood in Lebanese local time.
- Airport arrival and flight times: Beirut airport schedules use Lebanon local time.
- Border transfers: the clock moves one hour forward when traveling from Lebanon into Syria.
- Meeting times in Damascus: these use Syrian local time, which is currently one hour ahead.
- Return transfers to Beirut: when entering Lebanon from Syria, the clock moves one hour back.
If your Beirut pickup is confirmed for 9:00 am, arrive at the meeting point at 9:00 am Lebanon time. At that same moment, it is already 10:00 am in Syria. Do not change your Beirut pickup time yourself because of the difference.
Check both clocks before your transfer
Before traveling between Lebanon and Syria, make sure your phone is set to update its time zone automatically. It is also useful to save the pickup time and location in writing rather than relying only on a calendar app that may automatically convert the time.
If you are joining a Syrian Guides transfer from Beirut, follow the pickup time stated in your confirmation using Lebanese local time while you are still in Lebanon. Once you cross into Syria, use Damascus time for the rest of your itinerary.
The one-hour difference will remain during Lebanon’s winter-time period. Lebanon is currently scheduled to move its clocks forward again in late March 2027, when Beirut and Damascus should return to the same UTC+3 time.
One small clock change can mean a missed transfer.
If you are traveling from Beirut to Damascus this winter, remember the simple rule: Syria is one hour ahead of Lebanon. Always follow Beirut pickup times in Lebanon time and Syrian itinerary times in Damascus time.
