Rehabilitation works at Al-Dabbousiya Syria-Lebanon border crossing in July 2026

Syria travel news · 8 November 2026

Travel update: Syrian authorities have announced that the Al-Dabbousiya land border crossing with Lebanon is scheduled to reopen on Monday, 9 November 2026, following extensive reconstruction. The announcement is important for people planning to travel to Syria by road, but as of this article’s publication on 8 November, the reopening is announced, not yet independently confirmed as operational.

What has been announced?

On 7 November, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported a statement from Mazen Alloush, director of relations and international cooperation at Syria’s General Authority for Borders and Customs. According to the authority, months of work have been completed at Al-Dabbousiya, including rebuilding the bridge connecting Syria and Lebanon, renovating administrative buildings and passenger halls, and expanding and rehabilitating the crossing’s yards.

The authority said an official reopening ceremony would take place on Monday with representatives from both countries. Its stated goal is to improve the movement of passengers and goods and make border services more efficient.

What does this mean for travelers?

The reopening would restore another land-crossing option between Lebanon and Syria. That is welcome news for visitors, transport operators and local communities, particularly those whose journeys are better served by this crossing. However, an announced reopening does not guarantee that every traveler can immediately use the crossing at any hour or under the same procedures as other border points.

Do not change your journey solely on the basis of the announcement. Before departure, confirm that passenger processing has actually begun, the crossing’s operating hours, whether your nationality and vehicle arrangements are accepted, and any current visa or entry-approval requirements. These details were not established in the announcement. The reopening does not itself change Syria’s visa rules.

For many international guests arriving via Beirut, the most convenient route may still be the established crossing used for their arranged transfer. Syrian Guides recommends confirming the specific border route with your tour operator or driver rather than assuming that a newly reopened crossing will be the best option.
