At Syrian Guides, we are always thrilled to welcome travelers eager to explore Syria’s rich history and vibrant culture. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Stephie, an experienced traveler who has visited 76 countries. She went on a journey through Syria and graciously shared her deep insights about her experience. Her story shows the warmth, hospitality, and breathtaking sights that make Syria such a unique destination.
“My trip to Syria with Syrian Guides was nothing short of unforgettable! From the very first voicemail by Rami to my drop-off in Beirut, the entire experience was seamless. And most of all, this was thanks to my incredible guide Bashar—a master problem solver—and our driver, Abdullah, whose calm demeanor exuded confidence, patience, and wisdom.
Bashar thrives on challenges. His love for tennis may explain his quick thinking and ability to stay ahead of the game. No challenge was too big or too small for him—he was always ready to meet his “match” head-on!
What made this trip truly special was its authenticity. Unlike some guides who simply recite facts without personality, Bashar was fully engaged. I never felt like I was being “talked at.” He struck the perfect balance—knowing when to explain, when to listen, and when to let me take in the moment. He didn’t just go through the motions; he adapted to the environment and ensured the experience felt personal and meaningful.
The sights we visited were awe-inspiring and mind-bending, to say the least. Bashar’s contagious enthusiasm only heightened my excitement, making every destination feel even more enthralling. Each place we explored was unique and of exceptional quality.
Before my trip, many people questioned my decision to visit Syria, their concerns fueled by media sensationalism that thrives on “panic porn.” But at no point did I ever feel unsafe. The team was hyper-aware and always ready to adapt to any situation. I knew I was in good hands, no matter what.
A perfect example of this was when I got very sick after drinking spring water and indulging in a particularly rich falafel sandwich in Aleppo. In any other situation, I would have been out for days. In fact, I was convinced I’d have to extend my trip! But thanks to Bashar’s quick thinking and crisis management, I only lost about six hours. He effortlessly readjusted the itinerary so that I could maximize my time in Aleppo without feeling like I had missed out. That is Bashar’s signature trait—his ability to turn any challenge into an opportunity.
This journey wouldn’t have been the same without Abdullah, the quiet yet powerful force behind the wheel. Exceptionally kind, polite, mindful, and composed, he handled every situation with ease. I regret not being able to converse with him more due to my very limited Arabic, but from our brief interactions, I was left with an incredible impression of him.
And here’s a fun fact—if you’re a Dostoevsky fan, Abdullah is your guy! If you speak Arabic, prepare for deep discussions about the intricate themes in his works.
Syria is unlike any place I’ve ever seen. Having traveled to 76 countries, I can confidently say that this land stands out as one of the most extraordinary places I’ve ever visited. The ancient history, the warm hospitality, and Bashar’s vast knowledge made this trip truly exceptional.
To top it off, the experience was an incredible bargain. My eight-day tour included accommodations, breakfast, a guide, a driver, and personal care—all at an unbeatable price. Honestly, within the first hour, I already felt like I had gotten my money’s worth. The organic and authentic nature of the trip only made it even more special.
Syria is evolving rapidly, yet the team handled everything seamlessly. At no point did I have any doubts or feel unsafe. If an area isn’t safe, you can trust that the agency will avoid it altogether.
So… what can I say? Come to Syria before it’s too late. Before over-tourism changes it. Before new government regulations make it harder. Don’t believe everything the media tells you—come see for yourself and then decide.
Go. Now. Don’t overthink it.
As Nike says: Just Do It.
Inshallah, I will be back to see more. Shukran Bashar, Rami, Mary, and Abdullah—you all made my trip to Syria truly unforgettable!”
