The first group of Tourist Police officers has graduated from the Police College in Damascus. This graduation was organised by the Ministry of Tourism together with the Ministry of Interior. It marks an important new step to support tourism in Syria and make sure all visitors feel safe during their trips.
During the ceremony, Tourism Minister Mazen al-Salhani spoke about the importance of this move. He said that creating the Tourist Police is a big step to improve tourism services and security in Syria. According to the minister, the Tourist Police will work to protect tourists, help them if they face any problems, and make sure all tourist sites remain safe and organised. He explained that this will also help Syria become a better and safer destination for visitors from around the world.
The minister added that the success of this idea depends on the support of local communities. He believes that cooperation between the government and local people is the key to making Syria a leading tourism destination in the region.
In the past years, tourism in Syria was badly affected by the war, and many tourists stopped visiting. Now, with more stability returning to many areas, the government is focusing on rebuilding tourism. Efforts are being made to repair historical sites, reopen hotels and services, and improve the general environment for travellers. The launch of the Tourist Police is part of these plans to welcome tourists again and give them confidence to visit safely.
The graduation ceremony was attended by several officials, including Deputy Minister of Tourism for Hotel Affairs and Quality, Faraj Qashqoush, Deputy Minister of Interior for Police Affairs, Major General Ahmad Latouf, and Director of the Traffic Department, Brigadier General Fadi al-Hamish.
This new Tourist Police force will start working soon in tourist areas across Syria. Their presence aims to give visitors extra reassurance and make their trips smoother and safer as the country continues to reopen its doors to the world.
